Job summary

allpay Limited, based in Hereford, is seeking a Financial Accountant to own statutory accounting, tax compliance and financial controls within the Finance team. You will work with external auditors and drive improvements across financial processes in a regulated environment.

The role suits a qualified accountant or a QBE professional with a strong background in financial accounting and compliance, reporting to the Head of Financial Control & Reporting.

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant with substantial experience (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience preparing statutory financial statements.
• Experience managing external audits.
• Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial controls.
• Experience with VAT, tax compliance and balance sheet management.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys a broad technical role spanning statutory reporting, audit, financial controls, tax compliance and process improvement.

Reporting to the Head of Financial Control & Reporting, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting whilst helping drive continuous improvement across the finance function.

The Opportunity

Based in Hereford, this is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional to take ownership of key financial accounting processes, build strong relationships with external auditors and advisors, and contribute to the continued development of a strong and effective financial control environment.

The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of activities including statutory accounting, tax compliance, balance sheet governance, payroll oversight and regulatory reporting.

This position would suit either a qualified accountant or an experienced Qualified by Experience (QBE) professional with a strong background in financial accounting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

• Preparation of annual statutory accounts and supporting disclosures.
• Ownership of fixed asset accounting and associated reporting.
• Review and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with accounting standards.

Audit & Compliance

• Lead the annual external audit process.
• Coordinate information requests and act as primary contact for auditors.
• Support internal audit reviews and recommendations.
• Complete regulatory and statistical returns including FCA and ONS reporting.

Tax & Payroll

• Preparation and submission of VAT returns.
• Support corporation tax compliance and year-end tax reporting.
• Manage P11D reporting and other employment tax obligations.
• Provide oversight of payroll processing, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and company policies.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement process improvements across the finance function.
• Support enhancements to financial systems, reporting and controls.
• Contribute to operational efficiency initiatives and finance transformation projects.

About You

We are looking for an individual with strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Essential

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or Qualified by Experience (QBE) with substantial relevant experience.
• Experience preparing statutory financial statements.
• Experience managing or supporting external audits.
• Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial controls.
• Experience with VAT, tax compliance and balance sheet management.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

• Experience within financial services, fintech or FCA-regulated environments.
• Experience of payroll oversight and employment tax compliance.
• Experience driving process improvements and system developments.
