Citi in Belfast, UK is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Java) for the Global Fixed Income Trade Processing team. You will design and develop large, distributed systems to capture and process high volumes of SFT trades, operating in a hybrid model with occasional remote work.

You will lead architectural decisions, mentor peers, and collaborate across technology and business partners to deliver resilient, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Solid Java & OOP foundations with production-grade code.
• Experience with Spring Boot and enterprise Java frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of financial domain, especially SFT (securities financing).
• Proven track record delivering large distributed systems.

The Global Fixed Income Trade Processing (FiTP) Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Java) with a proven track record of design and developing large, complex and distributed systems.

This role is within the FiTP team in Belfast, UK. The successful individual will ideally have a strong knowledge of Fixed Income especially SFT products and experience in building software systems to handle the capture and processing of high volume of such trades.

In this fast paced environment you must be able to prioritize tasks, work within deadlines, taking a pragmatic and thoughtful approach, paying close attention to details. You will need to employ strong communication skills, necessary to effectively produce client solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised applications systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
• Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
• Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes
• Serve as advisor or coach to new or lower level analysts
• Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
• Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
• Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Required Qualifications

• Solid understanding and experience on OOP programming skills
• Good experience on Java programming and frameworks like Spring Boot, etc.
• Solid domian knowledge on financial industry especially on SFT
• Proven background in developing large distributed systems to address complex business problems.
• Ability to perform thorough requirement analysis and create comprehensive design for business features.
• Keen to produce well-crafted software living up to highest quality standards.
• Enthusiastic in learning and adopting industry-leading technologies into work.
• Ability to work independently with ownership to estimation and timeline
• Self-motivated and with determination to achieve goals
• Good team working skills and ability to work in a virtual team environment.
• Ability to think critically, identify improvement opportunities within application and team, come up with solutions and drive the execution.
• Well-organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks to achieve maximum output.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to the Finance industry or a background in financial applications is a significant advantage.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
