Job description

Sewell Wallis is excited to be working with a leading manufacturing business based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Due to increased workload, they are looking for a Finance Supervisor to oversee an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Assistant. This role is initially a 6-month contract with the potential for extension.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Accountant with at least 1-2 years of supervisory experience.

What will you be doing?
  1. Supervise daily operations of the accounts ledger team, including accounts payable and receivable functions.
  2. Ensure all ledger entries are accurately recorded and reconciled with supporting documentation.
  3. Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and account adjustments.
  4. Maintain the general ledger and ensure timely month-end and year-end closing activities.
  5. Monitor aged debtors and creditors reports and ensure timely follow-ups or payments.
  6. Assist with the preparation of financial statements and audit schedules.
  7. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
  8. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
  9. Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to ledger team members.
  10. Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve ledger discrepancies.
What skills are we looking for?
  1. 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a similar Finance Supervisor role.
  2. Strong understanding of accounting principles, ledger management, and financial reporting.
  3. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar).
  4. Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  5. High attention to detail and accuracy.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Experience in a medium to large organisation or shared services environment.
