Job summary

Better Placed is seeking a Finance Manager to lead monthly management accounts, drive commercial insight, and partner with senior stakeholders across a growing logistics business in the West Midlands.

The role covers budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, month-end close, and KPI reporting, with opportunities to improve processes and automate controls. Hybrid working pattern, with 3 days onsite and 2 days home-based.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
• Strong experience producing and owning monthly management accounts.
• Solid technical accounting background, including month-end and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.
• Experience working with an ERP system.
• Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to understand the key drivers behind business performance.
• Experience business partnering with non-finance stakeholders.
• The confidence to challenge numbers and provide meaningful insight.
• A proactive approach to improving processes, reporting and controls.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in transactional, operational or multi-site businesses is useful.

Responsibilities

Finance Manager – Growing Logistics Business – West Midlands

We’re working with a growing and well-established business in the West Midlands who are looking to appoint a qualified Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant to join their finance team.

The business is continuing to grow, with finance playing an increasingly important role in supporting commercial decision-making and improving business performance.

This is a broad and commercially focused role, reporting into the Financial Controller and working closely with stakeholders across the wider business. You’ll take ownership of the management accounts while providing analysis and insight to help drive profitability, manage costs and support future growth.

The Role

• Ownership of the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and associated reporting
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and month-end processes
• Providing detailed financial and commercial analysis, identifying trends and opportunities to improve performance
• Business partnering with operational, commercial and senior stakeholders, providing insight and challenging where appropriate
• Supporting commercial modelling, pricing and wider business decisions
• Producing KPI reporting and analysis for senior management
• Supporting year-end accounts, audit and statutory reporting
• Improving financial processes, controls and reporting, including opportunities to automate and streamline
• Supporting wider finance projects and business improvement initiatives

About You

We’re looking for a fully qualified accountant who is commercially minded, analytical and enjoys working closely with the wider business.

You’ll ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
