Summary

M&S Finance is more than just reporting numbers, it's about enabling growth, transformation, and trust. Sitting at the heart of one of Britain's most iconic retailers, the Finance team ensures that every decision is backed by robust insight and transparent reporting.

As Finance Manager in Group Reporting, you'll be at the centre of M&S Finance, ensuring our Group results are delivered with accuracy, clarity, and insight. This role is critical in shaping how M&S communicates its financial performance to senior leadership, external stakeholders, and the wider market. You'll oversee the Group cash flow model, support treasury accounting, and play a pivotal role in consolidating results across monthly, interim, and annual cycles. Beyond the numbers, you'll act as a trusted advisor, simplifying complex technical concepts, influencing decisions, and driving improvements that strengthen the way we report and operate.

This is a high-profile position with exposure to the Group Financial Controller, Head of Finance Group Reporting, and Group FD, giving you the opportunity to make a real impact on how M&S delivers its financial narrative to the Board, shareholders, and the market.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the preparation and consolidation of Group results across monthly, interim, and annual reporting cycles.
  • Own the Group cash flow model and treasury accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.
  • Partner with finance teams and Investor Relations to deliver clear, insightful commentary for senior stakeholders and external announcements.
  • Act as a key contact for external auditors, supporting year-end, interim, and ad hoc reviews.
  • Drive process improvements and best practice across Group Finance, simplifying complex reporting requirements.
Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • A qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA or equivalent) with strong technical expertise, ideally trained in a Big 4 or mid-tier audit firm.
  • Experienced in large plc group/consolidation reporting, with at least 3 years PQE at Manager level.
  • Skilled in analysis and communication, able to simplify complex technical concepts for non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and proactive, with a track record of driving successful process change and business partnering.
  • Confident under pressure, with strong Excel skills and familiarity with ERP/consolidation systems (SAP/BPC preferred).
What’s in it for you?
