Job summary

Michael Page International Recruitment Limited is seeking a Financial Controller to own the technical finance function, including tax, VAT and audit, and to lead a small finance team. You will act as number two to the Head of Finance and drive robust financial controls.

Based in the Liverpool area, the role offers a 37-hour week, flexible working hours and a salary up to £60,000 depending on experience. This is a fast-growing SME with commercial exposure.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with strong technical accounting skills.
• Experience with tax, VAT and audit.
• Proactive, forward-thinking and commercially minded.
• Experience in a fast-paced SME environment.
• People management or mentoring experience preferred.
• Confident communicator with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of tax, VAT, audit and statutory compliance across the business.
• Lead the year-end audit process with robust controls and documentation.
• Manage and develop a small finance team, supporting progression and performance.
• Oversee the quality and accuracy of management and financial reporting.
• Drive process improvements, efficiencies and stronger financial controls.
• Work closely with the Head of Finance as their number two, supporting commercial projects and key decisions.
