Primary RolePurpose
The FinanceManager is responsible for the effective delivery of financial management,reporting, and control across the organisation, ensuring the provision ofaccurate, timely, and insightful financial information to supportdecision-making.
Workingclosely with and reporting to the Head of Business Services, the postholderwill lead on the production of management accounts, budgets, and forecasts,supporting the organisation to plan effectively and maintain financialsustainability. The role will play a key part in strengthening financialprocesses, ensuring data integrity, and embedding a culture of financialresilience and best practice across the organisation.
Thepostholder will oversee day-to-day financial operations through the management of the Senior Finance Officer, ensuring that financial processesare efficient, well-controlled, and make effective use of systems andautomation. The role will also support the continued development of financialsystems and reporting, enabling improved use of data, dashboards, andanalysis to monitor both income and expenditure.
Acting as theorganisation’s lead for financial reporting and compliance, the postholderwill support statutory requirements, year-end processes, and external audit,ensuring that the organisation’s finances remain robust, transparent, andwell-managed.
Thepostholder will have overall responsibility for the organisation's payrollfunction, ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing inpartnership with HR.
This is ahands-on role requiring a confident and self-sufficient finance professionalwho can combine strong technical expertise with a proactive and collaborativeapproach, supporting the development of financial understanding andaccountability across the organisation.
OrganisationalAccountability
- As a managerwithin the organisation, the postholder will be jointly responsible withtheir wider peers in ensuring The Haven Wolverhampton fulfils its objectivesand operates effectively and ethically.

PrincipleAccountability
- Lead theproduction of monthly management accounts, ensuring timely, accurate andinsightful financial reporting to support decision-making
- Lead thepreparation of annual statutory accounts and act as the primary contact forthe external audit, ensuring all required documentation and schedules arecomplete and accurate
- Lead thedevelopment and delivery of the organisation’s monthly budgeting andforecasting processes, including cash flow forecasting, supporting effectivefinancial planning and sustainability
- Providehigh-quality financial reports and analysis to the Board, Senior LeadershipTeam, and relevant sub-committees, highlighting key risks, trends, andopportunities
- Oversee theintegrity of the organisation’s financial records, ensuring all controlaccounts (including bank, debtors, creditors and income) are accuratelymaintained and reconciled
- Ensure allstatutory and regulatory financial requirements are met, includingsubmissions to relevant bodies, maintaining compliance with applicablestandards and guidance
- Proactivelyidentify financial risks, pressures, and opportunities, providing clearadvice and timely escalation to senior management and trustees
- Lead theongoing development and improvement of financial systems, processes, andinternal controls, ensuring effective use of automation, data, and reportingtools
- Workcollaboratively with managers across the organisation to support effectivebudget management, including regular review of financial performance andvariances
- Line managesthe Senior Finance Officer and oversee the wider finance function, includingany finance/admin support roles, ensuring effective delivery and continuousimprovement
- Providefinancial insight and analysis to support organisational planning, servicedevelopment, and strategic decision-making
- Support theorganisation to maximise income and minimise financial loss, includingoversight of housing benefit and service charge income streams
- Uphold highstandards of financial governance, compliance, and integrity across allaspects of the organisation’s operations, including supporting andcontributing to the Finance Sub-Committee
- Lead andoversee the organisation's payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timelyprocessing of payroll, compliance with HMRC, pension and statutoryrequirements, and effective collaboration with HR to ensure employee recordsand payroll information remain accurate and up to date.
AdditionalAccountability
- Thepostholder may be expected to undertake wider duties outside of the scope ofthis job description on an ad-hoc basis which are appropriate to the level ofthe role and experience of the individual.
Shift Workand Flexibility
- Thepostholder may be expected to work shifts, unsociable hours and may beexpected to do so on a rota basis.This will be agreed on an individual basis depending upon therequirements of the role, business need and any reasonable adjustmentsrequired, and will be captured within the postholder’s contract.
