Job summary

Alexander Lloyd is recruiting a Senior Finance Manager for a multi-site business in East Sussex. You will lead the management accounting team, own month-end and year-end processes, and act as the technical accounting authority across the business.

Working with the CFO and Head of Finance, you will shape finance operations, build an internal audit function, strengthen controls, and drive process improvements while maintaining tight financial reporting and balance sheet integrity.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with post-qualification experience.
• Experience leading finance teams and managing multiple sites.
• Strong knowledge of VAT and statutory reporting.

Hybrid, 3 days on site and 2 from home

We at Alexander Lloyd are delighted to be partnering exclusively with a well established, growing organisation in East Sussex on a senior appointment. They are looking for a Finance Manager to lead their management accounting team and be the technical accounting authority across the business. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role works alongside the Financial Operations Manager and has regular contact with the CFO.

The Role:

This is a leadership role with real technical depth. You will manage and develop a team of Management Accountants and Finance Business Partners, own month end and year end, and lead the audit.

The business operates across a large number of sites and has grown steadily by winning new business, so there is plenty of scope to shape how finance works. You will improve processes and reporting, strengthen controls and take a lead role in building a new internal audit function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach and develop the Management Accounting team and Finance Business Partners
• Oversee the monthly management accounts, month end process and balance sheet reconciliations
• Lead the year end process and act as the main contact for the external auditors
• Ensure statutory compliance under FRS 102
• Manage VAT compliance, including preparing and submitting VAT returns
• Take a lead role in developing an internal audit function
• Support the group budget, owning the integrity and accuracy of the information
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures
• Identify and drive process and reporting improvements, documenting ways of working as you go
• Build strong relationships with non-finance budget holders, both remotely and through site visits
• Support the Head of Finance on wider finance projects and initiatives

What you will need:

• Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA, with strong post qualified experience
• Experience managing, developing and coaching a finance team
• Experience running an audit and working directly with external auditors
• Strong FRS 102 knowledge
• Strong VAT knowledge, including some of the more complex areas
• Experience in a multi-site, cost centre driven business
• Excellent balance sheet reconciliation and financial control skills
• Strong Excel and systems skills, with a sharp eye for detail
• Confident communicator, able to build relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues alike
