Job description

SRM are delighted to be partnering with a Southampton-based engineering business, a European market leader in its field and part of a larger international group, to appoint a Finance Manager.

This is a newly created role, as Finance Manger, to support the CFO, CEO, and wider leadership team as the business enters an exciting new phase of growth. Revenue is expected to double quickly, driven by major contract wins and a continued focus on improving profitability.

Reporting directly to the CFO, as a de-facto No2, this is a high-impact position offering broad exposure across financial reporting, project accounting, cashflow, and strategic planning. The successful candidate will play a central role in the next stage of the company’s journey, driving change, enhancing processes, and supporting senior decision-making and with a clear pathway to Financial Controller.

The Opportunity

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day finance function in a growing, project-led business
  • Partner closely with the CFO and senior leadership team
  • Drive improvements across systems, processes, and reporting
  • Lead and develop a small finance team
  • Contribute to board reporting, budgeting, and long-term planning

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly management accounts and year-end reporting
  • Support board reporting and group consolidation
  • Produce revenue, profitability, and cashflow analysis
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and three-year planning
  • Manage long-term contract accounting and project financials
  • Oversee ledgers, reconciliations, VAT, and compliance
  • Drive continuous improvement across finance processes and controls

About You

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in a hands-on finance role, ideally within a project-based or engineering environment
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to operate both strategically and at detail level
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving business
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and confident driving change
  • Strong communicator, able to influence across finance and non-finance stakeholders
  • Based in Southampton, hybrid and flexible working pattern
  • Part of an international group with strong growth ambitions
  • A dynamic environment where adaptability and initiative are key

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Finance Manager looking to step into a broader role within a high-growth, engineering-led business and play a visible part in its ongoing expansion.
