Job summary

Connected Finance in Sheffield is seeking an experienced Finance Manager for a part-time role (22.5 hours/week) with hybrid working (minimum 60% in office). You will support day-to-day finance operations, lead reporting, budgeting, and the month-end close, and help develop the finance team.

The role requires a qualified or part-qualified accountant with strong financial reporting, controls, VAT, PAYE, and NetSuite experience, plus excellent Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Qualified or part-qualified accountant with strong technical finance experience.
• Experience in financial reporting and financial controls.
• Experience in management accounting, budgeting/forecasting and month-end processes.
• Experience preparing or reviewing statutory accounts and supporting external audit.
• Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, payroll accounting and tax compliance.
• Strong Excel skills and familiarity with finance systems (NetSuite desirable).
• Excellent organisation, communication, and ability to develop others.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts with analysis and commentary.
• Lead month-end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare and review journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and balance sheet controls.
• Support budgeting and forecasting with budget owners.
• Produce high-quality management information for senior management and committees.
• Coordinate reporting and analysis of investment-related costs.
• Investigate variances and drive reporting improvements.
• Support statutory accounts, regulatory returns and external audits.
• Coordinate VAT, corporation tax, PAYE and other compliance.
• Oversee payroll accounting controls and PSA/P11D processes.
• Maintain strong financial controls and audit trails.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and reporting.
• Line-manage Finance team and support development.

Job description

Working pattern: Part time – 22.5 hours per week (flexible on number of days)

Contract: Permanent

Hybrid working: Yes – with a minimum of 60% office attendance

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a well-established professional organisation in Sheffield.

Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will play a key role in the effective day-to-day running of the finance function. This is a varied role with responsibility across management reporting, financial control, budgeting and forecasting, investment cost reporting and financial analysis.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of finance processes and systems, while supporting and developing members of the Finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts, including analysis and commentary.
• Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
• Prepare and review journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and balance sheet controls.
• Support budgeting and forecasting, working closely with budget owners.
• Produce high-quality financial analysis and management information for senior management and committees.
• Coordinate the reporting, reconciliation and analysis of investment management fees and related costs.
• Investigate variances and work with internal and external stakeholders to improve reporting quality.
• Support statutory accounts, regulatory returns and external audit activity.
• Coordinate VAT, corporation tax, PAYE and other finance compliance requirements.
• Manage annual PSA and P11D processes and oversee payroll accounting controls.
• Maintain strong financial controls, audit trails and review procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, controls and reporting.
• Line manage and develop members of the Finance team, supporting performance and professional development.
• Build effective relationships with colleagues, advisers, service providers and other stakeholders.

About you

We are looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant who combines strong technical finance experience with a practical and collaborative approach.

You will ideally have:

• ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification, or be part-qualified.
• Strong experience in financial reporting and financial controls.
• Experience of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and month-end processes.
• Experience preparing or reviewing statutory accounts and supporting external audit.
• Good knowledge of VAT, PAYE, payroll accounting and routine tax compliance.
• Strong Excel and finance systems experience, with the ability to analyse data and produce clear management information.
• Experience of NetSuite would be desirable.
• Experience within pensions, financial services, investment accounting or investment cost reporting would be advantageous.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain financial and technical matters clearly to non-finance colleagues.
