Job summary

Halliday Marx have exclusively partnered with a British manufacturing firm to recruit a Finance Manager in Birmingham. The role offers a hybrid pattern (4 days in office) with responsibility for month-end, trial balance, audits and financial controls within a small finance team.

You will lead the full finance cycle, drive process improvements, and play a key role in ERP migration. Manufacturing SME experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Must be recently qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA or finalist with exams this year.
• Experience in manufacturing or product-based SME preferred.
• Strong understanding of full finance cycle and ownership in a small finance team.
• Proactive approach to technology with automation/AI tools experience.

Responsibilities

• Owns month-end close and maintains nominal ledger.
• Produces and reviews trial balance and resolves variances.
• Supports preparation of monthly management accounts.
• Manages year-end statutory audit and acts as main contact for external auditors.
• Reviews and improves finance processes, controls and reporting; leverage automation/AI.
• Leads ERP migration: requirements gathering, process mapping, data cleansing, testing and go-live.
• Oversees statutory and tax compliance.
• Manages bank reconciliations across accounts.
• Oversees purchase and sales ledgers.
• Runs payroll.

Hybrid (4 days in) or in office

Birmingham

Working as part of a small finance team, you will take ownership of the month-end process, trial balance, statutory audit and wider financial controls, while sharing day-to-day transactional responsibilities with another member of the team.

The Role:

Taking ownership of the month-end close and maintaining the nominal ledger

Producing and reviewing the trial balance, resolving variances

Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts

Managing the year-end statutory audit and acting as the main point of contact for external auditors

Reviewing and improving finance processes, controls and reporting, making effective use of automation and AI

Playing a leading role in the planned ERP migration, including requirements gathering, process mapping, data cleansing, testing and go-live

Overseeing statutory and tax compliance

Managing bank reconciliations across all accounts

Overseeing purchase ledger and sales ledger

Running payroll

Ideally, you will have or be:

Recently qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent or be a finalist with exams this year

Experience within a manufacturing or product-based SME

A strong understanding of the full finance cycle, with the confidence to take ownership in a small finance team

A proactive approach to technology, with experience of adopting or implementing new systems, automation or AI tools

A strong desire to review and improve processes rather than simply maintain them

Well-organised with strong attention to detail

Experience using Access Dimensions and/or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central a bonus

Previous involvement in an ERP migration or systems implementation

Experience within a manufacturing or product-based SME
