Job summary

Engage Talent Partners is working on an exclusive search for a Finance Manager based in Aberdeen. You will manage the full day‑to‑day finance function, from transactional accounting and bank reconciliations through to monthly management accounts, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and monthly payroll.

VAT returns, year‑end accounts preparation, and robust financial controls form part of the remit.

Qualifications

• Hands-on accounting experience in an SME environment.
• Experience managing full accounting cycle from transactions to year-end.
• Relevant degree or ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification.
• Experience with monthly management accounts and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day finance: sales ledger, purchase ledger, invoicing, supplier payments, customer receipts and credit control.
• Complete regular bank reconciliations and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheets with supporting schedules.
• Manage the month-end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
• Analyze financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods; highlight variances and trends.
• Monitor cash flow, working capital, customer receipts and supplier payments; provide updates to the CFO.
• Support the CFO with annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Prepare VAT returns and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead year-end accounts preparation; liaise with external accountants and auditors.
• Oversee payroll administration and employee expenses.

Engage Talent Partners is working on an exclusive search for a Finance Manager, based in Aberdeen.

Our client is a highly innovative tech company who have recently commercialised their new, cutting‑edge technology to an international market. This is a unique opportunity in an ambitious business with huge growth plans, and the role will offer variety, autonomy and challenge to the successful candidate.

This is a standalone role which reports directly to the CFO. You will be responsible for managing the full day‑to‑day finance function, from transactional accounting and bank reconciliations through to monthly management accounts, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and monthly payroll. Responsibilities will also include VAT returns, year‑end accounts preparation, maintaining robust financial controls and providing financial analysis and support to the CFO to assist with business planning and decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Transactional Finance: Manage the day‑to‑day finance function, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, invoicing, supplier payments, customer receipts and credit control.
• Bank & Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Complete regular bank reconciliations and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
• Management Accounts: Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets and supporting schedules, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Month‑End Reporting: Manage the month‑end close process, including journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other necessary adjustments.
• Financial Analysis: Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts and prior periods, highlighting variances, trends and areas requiring further investigation.
• Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, working capital, customer receipts and supplier payments, providing regular updates to the CFO on the company’s financial position.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the CFO with the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts and ongoing financial planning.
• VAT & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and submit VAT returns and ensure compliance with relevant tax, accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Year‑End Accounts: Lead the preparation of year‑end financial information, schedules and reconciliations, liaising with external accountants and auditors as required.
• Payroll & Expenses: Oversee payroll administration, employee expenses and associated reconciliations, where applicable.
• Systems & Processes: Maintain the accounting system and identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting efficiency and the accuracy of financial data.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in a hands‑on accounting role, ideally within an SME environment, with experience managing the full accounting cycle from transactional finance through to management accounts and year‑end preparation. You will either have a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline or a professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
