Kent Route is seeking a Finance Business Partner to join our Finance team, responsible for managing the OPEX budget for the Orpington Delivery Unit. This role collaborates with business leadership under the guidance of the Financial Controller/Senior Finance Business Partner to provide professional finance and accounting advice.
The position offers an opportunity for a 6-month engagement based in Orpington Delivery Unit.
About the role (External)
- Provide financial advice and guidance to senior budget holders, helping them understand the impact of period results and forecasts against budgets to improve their understanding of the business.
- Serve as the accounting expert within the function, advising on financial results and forecasts, including preparing period accruals, transfers, and adjustments to ensure account accuracy.
- Maintain corporate governance across managed cost centres, conducting reviews and ensuring compliance with financial regulations to mitigate legal or financial risks.
- Deliver accurate business review reports, highlighting significant financial and operational issues to support informed decision-making.
- Engage with senior team members to enhance their understanding of financial positions and guide initiatives to improve business performance.
- Develop detailed bottom-up business plans and budgets to support good governance and add value for senior leaders.
- Proactively identify and manage commercial risks, including assessing the financial viability of new customers or suppliers, influencing decision-makers to reduce potential risks.
- Oversee central accounting functions to ensure efficient and effective service delivery within the cost centre.
- Assist in investment appraisals and business case analyses to support strategic decisions.
- Model and analyze cost bases, identifying opportunities for efficiencies to meet area targets.
Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Strong understanding of business needs and application of accounting standards.
- Membership or progress towards membership of a relevant accounting body (CIMA/ACCA).
- Expertise in creating and maintaining accounts and annual budgets.
- Significant experience in relevant finance disciplines.
- Proficiency in Excel and data manipulation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to translate technical accounting regulations into understandable language.
- Effective influencing skills at senior levels.
- Comprehensive understanding of financial control and risk management.
- Strong technical finance and accounting knowledge.
- Knowledge of project management principles and managing complex projects.
- Experience with Oracle-based systems.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in finance, accounting, business management, or relevant experience.
