Job summary

Ordnance Survey is seeking a Finance Analyst for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover in Southampton. The role focuses on owning project accounting and fixed/leased asset activities, ensuring costs, labour, capex and asset records are accurate and well-controlled.

You will support financial reporting and analysis for the project portfolio, provide insights on performance, and help maintain strong financial controls across the organisation. Hybrid working is available.

Qualifications

• Experience of financial reporting, analysis, and project or management accounting activities.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proactive mindset with experience of working with complex datasets and financial controls.
• Ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences.
• Experience working with financial systems, Excel and reporting tools.
• Understanding of fixed assets, capitalisation, and good accounting practice.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Collaborative approach and confidence in building effective working relationships across a range of business functions.

Responsibilities

• Managing ongoing and month‑end/year‑end project accounting activities, including monitoring project costs, internal labour allocations and capital expenditure.
• Supporting project managers and Finance Business Partners with financial reporting and analysis to improve understanding of project performance and promote compliance.
• Maintaining the fixed and leased asset register and ensuring additions, disposals, transfers and depreciation are accurately recorded as part of balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reviewing and processing project‑related accounting entries to ensure compliance with accounting policies and audit requirements.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and planning activities for projects and capital programmes.
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.
