Teaching Vacancies is seeking a Finance Officer for a one-form entry primary school in Portsmouth. You will manage the budget, oversee invoices and payroll-related tasks, and work with the Headteacher and Governors to ensure sound financial planning that supports pupil opportunities.

You will maintain accurate records, support tendering and procurement, and liaise with parents, suppliers and auditors, while ensuring data protection compliance and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation, management, and monitoring of the school budget to ensure resources support pupil opportunities and classroom needs.
• Manage day-to-day financial operations: processing invoices, payments, reconciliations, and banking.
• Evaluate financial information and consult with Headteacher and Governors for balanced budgets.
• Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with audit requirements and local regulations.
• Administer staff expense claims, payroll forms, and grant applications.
• Assist with tendering processes and purchasing decisions to ensure best value.
• Provide ongoing budgetary information to stakeholders.
• Oversee administrative tasks including inventories, staff absences, and HR-related forms.
• Liaise with parents, suppliers, auditors, and external agencies with warmth and clarity.
• Produce reports for Governor Finance Committee meetings.
• Maintain financial databases and systems with accuracy and security.
• Act as Data Protection Officer and support ICT-related financial systems.
• Ensure adherence to financial regulations and internal controls.
• Support health and safety compliance and other statutory requirements.
