Field Technician

Permanent / Full Time

Role

Responsible for delivering the safe provision of the following activities with strict adherence to the appropriate regulatory and license obligations for the electricity distribution network;

Work as part of a team of field technicians who provide specialist support to the secondary automation, telecontrol, protection and power quality activities within the SPM Licence programmes group.

Installation and commission of secondary SCADA, and Power Quality monitoring equipment to pole-mounted and ground-mounted secondary plant in conjunction with capital programme.

Identify, manage and resolve faults to ensure timely response to reported system defects and return to service within agreed timescales.

Use of a range of diagnostic tools to identify potential faults, incidents and required system enhancements, ensuring that the system is operated and maintained in a safe, effective and efficient manner and consider developments in technology and best practice

Takes responsibility and accountability for tasks and activities, which contributes to the achievement of team goals by providing support, advice, encouragement and clear direction and coaching when appropriate

Deliver agreed maintenance outputs to ensure effective operation of the network assets

Support wider Licence Programmes activities as required eg. wiring and installation of protection panels, support to test van during busy periods (HV pressure test & fault location)

What you’ll be doing

Deliver business plan outputs in line with financial, regulatory and business plan objectives whilst optimising return through incentive mechanisms.

Deliver robust project plans to facilitate business deliverables in line with district and licence plans

Through active customer and stakeholder engagement, support delivery of robust communication activities to facilitate the delivery of outputs and deliverables affecting local communities, customers and stakeholders.

Ensure efficient and effective delivery of performance targets as appropriate

To support continual performance improvement through analysis of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources.

Support integration of asset stewardship and ownership values through sound engineering principles and coordinated planning and delivery activities to improve integrity, safety and longevity of the electrical network.

Demonstrate and promote exemplary safety behaviours and ensure that all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities.

What you’ll bring

Technical and operational experience in a relevant installation/engineering role.

Awareness and understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which SPEN is operating

Sound knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.

Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.

Awareness of network development policies and procedures.

Working knowledge of network and business data and network management systems

Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.

Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.

Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels

Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to determine optimal solutions

Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.

Where required, relevant operational authorisation

Either a crafts qualification, apprenticeship, S/NVQ, or equivalent experience

Full valid driving licence

Experience in a project delivery role

Relevant network construction and operational experience
