Job description

Job Description

We’re currently looking for a passionate and driven Field Technician to join the environment and permitting team, covering sites in the Northeast of England - from north Nottinghamshire to Northumberland, along the A1 corridor. If you enjoy being outside and walking around open countryside, please have a read of what we have to offer!

Main Responsibilities for the Field Technician

Reporting directly to the Environmental Monitoring Manager, you will be responsible for undertaking environmental monitoring duties, including sampling groundwater, surface waters, and landfill leachate, recording water levels, and measuring concentrations of landfill gas. You will report the results and follow-up actions to ensure the Company’s quarries and landfill sites operate to minimize environmental impact and comply with legislative requirements.

You will collate and report data accurately and ensure compliance with reporting schedules. Importantly, around 90% of your work will be field-based, outdoors in all weather conditions, including site visits. You must hold a Full UK car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points to be considered. A 4x4 vehicle will be provided, along with a fuel card that will be fully expensed but does not cover private use.

Key Responsibilities for the Field Technician
  • Actively contribute to improving the sector’s safety performance by complying with health and safety requirements.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring on the Company’s sites, including quarries and landfills, following procedures and industry best practices.
  • Plan and manage your workload on a monthly basis.
  • Support the maintenance of site environmental management plans for closed landfills in line with EMS requirements.
  • Support regulatory engagement regarding closed landfill sites.
  • Undertake other environmental monitoring duties as required.
  • Provide advice to site management, geologists, and estates teams regarding permit or trigger level breaches related to landfill gas, water quality, and water levels.
  • Support the Environmental Monitoring Manager as needed.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Good time management skills and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently and follow complex procedures.
  • Experience in data collection and reporting is advantageous.
  • Computer literacy, especially with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Effective communication skills with a range of stakeholders.
  • Comfort working outdoors, navigating open countryside and encountering livestock.
