Job summary

National Grid in the UK is hiring a Maintenance Assistant to inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment across substations. You’ll travel in a company vehicle, work outdoors, and support access for 3rd party contractors while delivering reliable, safe operation.

The role is hands-on, requires practical know-how, and a full UK driving licence. You’ll follow digital work instructions on an iPad, hit daily targets, and grow your career with training, tools and PPE provided.

Qualifications

• Worked in an industrial or operational environment with practical skills for inspecting/checking equipment.
• Able to work on your own to targets and deadlines, following safety procedures.
• Keen eye for detail – flagging when something isn’t right.
• You can use a laptop and iPad to follow digital work instructions.
• Full UK driving licence is required.
• Live within 30 minutes of Gloucester GL2 9PF or Melksham SN12 7QF.
• Mechanical/electrical or general engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment across substations.
• Assist with site access for 3rd party contractors and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Carry out routine site duties and condition monitoring as per digital work instructions.
• Travel between substations in company vehicle and work primarily to individual targets.
