Job summary

Labserve is seeking a Field Service Engineer / Workshop Technician to service, calibrate and repair weighing equipment and pipettes across our portfolio. The role blends field visits with workshop duties, requiring hands-on problem solving and a customer‑facing approach.

You will deliver calibration certificates, maintain safety and quality standards, and participate in CPD. A UK-based candidate willing to travel to customer sites and work in Gateshead-based workshop will thrive in this varied,

Job description

Location: Field-based with a minimum of 2 days per week in the workshop (Gateshead)

About the Role

We're looking for a motivated and customer-focused Field Service Engineer / Workshop Technician to join our team. This is a varied role combining on-site customer visits with workshop-based responsibilities, where you'll be responsible for servicing, calibrating, repairing and commissioning weighing equipment and pipettes across the Labserve portfolio.

You'll play a key role in delivering outstanding customer service, ensuring equipment is safe, accurate and operating to the highest standards. A strong level of hands-on experience and proficiency in pipette servicing, calibration and repair is particularly important for this role. Key Responsibilities
  • Service, calibrate, commission and repair weighing equipment and pipettes, ensuring a high level of accuracy and proficiency when carrying out pipette calibration and servicing.
  • Complete accurate calibration certificates and service documentation, including pipette calibration records and certificates.
  • Carry out equipment testing and safety checks in line with company policies and industry standards.
  • Carry out pipette testing, calibration and performance checks to ensure accuracy, reliability and compliance with required standards.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently to minimise customer downtime, including identifying and resolving faults with pipettes and associated equipment.
  • Deliver excellent customer service during site visits and provide aftercare support.
  • Build positive relationships with customers and act as a professional representative of the business.
  • Carry out site risk assessments and follow all site-specific health and safety procedures.
  • Wear the appropriate PPE provided and maintain safe working practices at all times.
  • Identify opportunities to promote additional products and services where appropriate.
  • Manage your workload effectively, working independently while collaborating with colleagues and the Service Team.
  • Complete administrative tasks, including timesheets, workbooks and calibration certificates, accurately and on time.
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Provide equipment training to customers, ensuring safe and correct operation, including guidance on the correct use and care of pipettes where required.
Workshop & Warehouse Responsibilities
  • Prepare and package equipment for dispatch.
  • Pick parts and components from stock.
  • Carry out equipment repairs within the workshop, including pipette servicing and repair where required.
  • Support monthly stock takes.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards within the workshop and warehouse.
  • Assist with general workshop activities as required.
About You

  • Experienced and proficient in the servicing, calibration and repair of pipettes, with a strong understanding of pipette accuracy, performance and calibration requirements.
  • Confident working with pipettes in a technical environment, with good practical knowledge and attention to detail when carrying out calibration and servicing work.
  • Friendly, approachable and committed to delivering high-quality work.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites as required.
  • Comfortable undertaking manual handling tasks, including lifting equipment when required (full training will be provided).
