Work Lyf Group Ltd is recruiting a Field Service Engineer to join a Contract Maintenance team. The role is home-based with UK travel on a fleet of locomotives, delivering planned and reactive maintenance to maximise reliability.

You will perform diagnostics, fault finding and repairs, complete inspections, and provide technical support on-site. Diesel engine experience, independent work style and strong customer service are essential, with a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• BTEC National Certificate, ONC in Engineering, or similar qualification.
• Proven experience working with diesel engines and related systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
• Complete reliability inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
• Identify potential fleet issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in a rolling day/night on-call rota.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and colleagues.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and fleet upgrades.

Work Lyf Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering organisation for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Contract Maintenance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with strong diesel engine experience to work on a fleet of locomotives across the UK, providing both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and operational performance.

The Role

Working predominantly as a lone engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and modifications across customer sites throughout the UK. You will play a vital role in ensuring fleet availability while delivering exceptional service standards.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.

• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

• Rail industry experience.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS).
• Emergency First Aid qualification.
• Safety Critical competence experience.
