Job summary

Work Lyf Group Ltd is hiring a Field Service Engineer to service locomotives across the UK. The role is home-based with UK travel, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to maximise reliability and performance.

You will diagnose diesel engine and control system faults, perform inspections, and support customers with expert technical advice. A strong independent work ethic and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• BTEC National Certificate, ONC in Engineering, or similar qualification.
• Proven experience working with diesel engines and associated systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
• Complete reliability inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
• Identify potential fleet issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in a rolling day/night on-call rota.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and colleagues.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and industry regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and fleet upgrades.

Work Lyf Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering organisation for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Contract Maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with strong diesel engine experience to work on a fleet of locomotives across the UK, providing both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and operational performance.

The Role

• Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
