Job summary

Schneider Electric is seeking a Service Representative I for Midlands/South UK with extensive travel. The role covers installation, maintenance and fault diagnosis of 400V–33kV electrical distribution equipment, including LV/HV/AIS/GIS switchgear, ATS and EV charging systems.

Travel to UK and overseas sites is required; strong fault-finding, safety, and customer service skills are essential to deliver high-quality service and support for critical infrastructure across multiple industries.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience installing, maintaining, modifying and upgrading electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Experience with LV and HV switchgear systems.
  • Experience performing maintenance, inspection and fault diagnosis up to 33kV.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team at customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, refurbish, modify and upgrade electrical distribution equipment operating between 400V and 33kV.
  • Carry out maintenance inspections and fault diagnosis.
  • Install, commission and test ATS and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Produce service reports and maintain documentation.
  • Support customer training and provide excellent customer service.

Service Representative (SR) - Generalist Service Representative I

Reporting To

Service Representative Manager

Midlands / South UK (Extensive UK and Overseas Travel Required)

Role Purpose

The Field Service Representative is responsible for the installation, maintenance, modification, refurbishment, testing and fault diagnosis of electrical power distribution equipment, including LV/HV switchgear, AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear), GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), transformers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The role requires regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK and overseas, supporting a range of sectors including industrial, utilities, data centres, defence, offshore, nuclear and critical infrastructure environments.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Service Activities
  • Supervise and/or perform site activities at UK, overseas and offshore locations.
  • Install, maintain, refurbish, modify and upgrade electrical distribution equipment operating between 400V and 33kV.
  • Install, maintain and fault-find on:
    • LV Switchgear
    • HV Switchgear
    • AIS Switchgear
    • GIS Switchgear
    • Transformers
    • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
    • EV Charging Infrastructure
    • Protection and Control System wiring
    • Associated Distribution Equipment
  • Carry out:
    • Equipment off-loading and positioning
    • Installation activities
    • Maintenance inspections
    • Refurbishment and retrofit works
    • Fault diagnosis and rectification
    • Condition assessments
  • Perform electrical testing including:
    • Insulation Resistance (IR) Testing
    • Ducter Resistance Testing
    • Functional Testing
    • System Testing
    • Fault Finding and Diagnostics
  • Install, commission, test and maintain Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and associated control systems.
  • Install, commission, test and maintain EV charging infrastructure, including AC and DC charging systems.
  • Support customer training activities when required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Undertake site-specific risk assessments.
  • Assist with the preparation of Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS).
  • Ensure compliance with all company, customer and statutory health and safety requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture when working on LV and HV electrical systems.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Produce accurate service reports and test documentation.
  • Record maintenance activities and technical findings in accordance with company procedures.
  • Complete timesheets, expenses and site paperwork within agreed timescales.
Customer & Business Support
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Identify opportunities for service upgrades, maintenance contracts and additional business opportunities.
  • Contribute technical information towards quotations and service proposals.
  • Assist with workshop testing and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) when required.
Candidate Profile
Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience installing, maintaining, modifying and upgrading electrical power distribution equipment.
  • Proven experience with LV and HV switchgear systems.
  • Experience carrying out maintenance, inspection and fault diagnosis activities on electrical distribution systems operating up to 33kV.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team at customer sites.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience within utilities, data centres, industrial facilities, offshore, defence, nuclear or critical power environments.
Desirable
  • Experience with EV charging infrastructure.
  • Experience working with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
  • Experience with equipment from manufacturers such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, ABB, Eaton, Lucy Electric, Mitsubishi Electric or GE Vernova.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
  • Relevant electrical qualification (ONC, HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or equivalent experience).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Valid Passport.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer-facing and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, modification and fault diagnosis of LV and HV switchgear systems.
  • Strong understanding of AIS and GIS switchgear products.
  • Well grounded in maintenance practices, fault-finding techniques and operational procedures on electrical networks up to 33kV.
  • Sound understanding of electrical safety and safe systems of work associated with live HV networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Technical Specifications
ATS Skills
  • Experience commissioning, maintaining and fault-finding Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and associated control systems.
  • Understanding of standby power systems, generator-to-mains changeover systems and critical power applications.
  • Ability to diagnose and rectify ATS control, communication and operational faults.
  • Knowledge of synchronisation, load transfer and emergency power switching principles.
EV Infrastructure Skills
  • Experience installing, commissioning, testing and maintaining Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC charging systems, including rapid and ultra-rapid chargers.
  • Understanding of EV charging protocols, load management systems and network connectivity.
  • Ability to carry out fault-finding and maintenance on EV charging equipment and supporting LV distribution systems.
  • Understanding of energy management and EV infrastructure integration into existing power networks.
Desirable
  • EV Charging Installation Qualification.
  • OEM Product Training on AIS, GIS, ATS or Switchgear products.
  • High Voltage Authorised Person qualification.
  • SF6 Gas Handling Certification for GIS equipment.
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
