Job summary

LOCATORS is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician in Ferndown to service, repair and maintain forklifts and related equipment at customer sites. You will diagnose faults, perform preventive maintenance and minimise downtime while keeping accurate records and communicating clearly with customers.

The role requires a time-served technician with knowledge of transmission systems, electronic control systems and AC/DC motors, plus a valid driving licence.

Qualifications

• Sound time-served knowledge of transmission systems, modern electronic control systems and AC/DC motors.
• Full clean and valid driving licence.
• Ability to diagnose faults and perform preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out the maintenance, servicing and repair of forklifts and related equipment on-site, diagnosing faults and minimising downtime.
• Complete all paperwork accurately with required details (part numbers, order numbers, times, dates, actions and customer notes).
• Utilise support resources to diagnose and repair equipment swiftly and accurately.
• Maintain van stock levels and raise any additional parts requirements to the Parts/Support teams.
• Maintain regular contact with the Field Service Team Leader and be available for site meetings as required.
• Update the Customer Support office after job completion and flag potential issues for future work.
• Adhere to Health & Safety rules and customer site requirements at all times.
• Keep customers informed on progress and follow-up actions with backup from the Customer Support team.
• Present a professional image; keep van, tools and equipment clean and well maintained.
• Attend training courses when required.

Responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out the maintenance, servicing, and repair of customers’ forklifts, associated equipment, and other hired machinery on-site, ensuring all work is completed to a high standard. This includes diagnosing faults, performing preventative maintenance, and addressing breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime for the customer.
• Complete all paperwork (hard copy or electronic) with the relevant and required information and within the specified timescale. This will include clear identification of part numbers, order numbers, times and dates, recommended further action and customer commentary.
• Utilise all available support resources, including the Senior Technician and/or Technical Support Manager, to ensure swift and accurate diagnosis and effective repair of equipment.
• Maintain appropriate van stock levels to maximise efficiency, and communicate any additional requirements clearly to the Parts department or other support team members.
• Maintain regular contact and a productive working relationship with the Field Service Team Leader, ensuring availability for site meetings as required.
• To update the Customer Support office once a job has been completed and to notify them of potential problems with customers and any future requirements they may have, in a timely manner using appropriate methods (email, telephone ...).
• Fulfil all statutory and company requirements with regard to Health and Safety and adhere to all customer site requirements.
• Ensure the customer is kept informed about the progress of the repair and any required follow-up work, using the Customer Support team to provide backup and maintain continuity.
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and present a professional image at all times, including ensuring the van, tools, and other work-related equipment are clean, well-maintained, and presentable.
• Attend training courses when required.
