Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) Technician to join our Water Production team in Bourne End. The role is field-based, travelling between sites in the East Thames Valley, with a 38-hour week, 7:30am–3:36pm, plus standby and overtime after training.

You will install, commission, maintain and repair level instrumentation, flow meters, Turbidity monitors, and manage SCADA/PLC networks. Strong PLC/relay logic skills and the ability to read circuits are essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified to HNC or NVQ3 in instrumentation, control and automation.
• 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification preferred.
• Good understanding of operational plant and control systems.
• Experience with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), including programming.
• Familiarity with Wonderware and ClearSCADA is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Installations, commissioning, maintenance and repairs of water production assets.
• Work with SCADA systems, PLCs and process control networks.
• Liaise with and supervise contractors and suppliers.
• Investigate asset failures and implement rapid repairs to avoid interruptions.
• Provide technical advice and training support for apprentices.
