Job summary

Cambridgeshire County Council is hiring a Highways Maintenance Technician to help keep Cambridgeshire moving. This hands-on role covers inspections, coordinating reactive and planned maintenance, and working with partners to improve the county's road network.

You'll work across depots in Witchford, Huntingdon, Whittlesford and March, drive council vehicles, perform safety checks and engage with communities. You will need GCSEs, a full UK driving licence and a practical, organised approach.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including English, Maths and Science or equivalent.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to solve problems and work independently.
• Basic IT skills (e.g. email, Word, Excel).
• A full UK driving licence (essential).
• Willingness to work outdoors and travel across the county.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highway inspections across the county using council vehicles from depots in Witchford, Huntingdon, Whittlesford and March.
• Investigate reported road issues and gather information for repairs
• Support maintenance planning and delivery, both reactive and planned
• Work with colleagues and contractors to solve problems and deliver improvements
• Engage with local communities and parish councils to understand priorities
• Check quality of repair works and ensure standards are met
• Record findings and update systems for performance tracking
• Help coordinate work across teams to maximise value and avoid duplication
