Ledwood are recruiting an experienced Construction Field Engineer to join our team at Hinkley Point C. The role focuses on providing practical construction input during contract execution for installing large power plant equipment.

Description


Ledwood are looking to recruit an experienced Construction Field Engineer to join our team at Hinkley Point C .


Where our contract is for the Mechanical Equipment Erection Works within the turbine buildings. Each building consists of 38 packages of equipment ranging from small 2Te pumps to a 2,440Te condenser. Overall, Ledwood will be installing 12,750Te of equipment as part of Arabelle’s work supplying two conventional power islands for Hinkley Point C, which include the Arabelle steam turbine.The Arabelle turbines at Hinkley Point C will be the largest ever built, longer than an Airbus 380 and capable of producing 1,770 MW each.


The Role

The role is to provide effective and practical construction input into the contract execution phase of the project to ensure constructability aspects of the project execution are adequately considered.


Requirements


Your new position will be:


  • Manage and liaise with area Superintendents and Supervisors on daily work allocations ensuring workforce is productive.

  • Produce Risk Assessed Method Statements for the Installation and Erection of Power Plant Equipment.

  • Ensure that construction hazards and risks are fully considered by designers and contractors during the detailed engineering activities and that the appropriate mitigation is taken.

  • Reviews all engineering documentation for compliance with contract requirements.

  • Suggests new methods, procedures and work processes to continuously improve the project execution work process.

  • Is cognisant and aware of the commercial implications of decisions and the effect on construction activities.

  • Keeps Project Management team (PM Team) informed about engineering progress and problems.

  • Liaise with the Client and PM team to ensure timely and effective release of construction data/drawings and resolution of problems.

  • Ensure that efficient and effective communications are maintained between the Client and PM team, ensuring that all reporting requirements are met.

  • Ensure, through review and monitoring, that the construction schedules are maintained, and that early mitigation of slippage is appropriately actioned.

  • Provide notification of any potential commercial risk or opportunity to the Project Management team for further action.

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships between all assigned construction team members and the HSE team at all levels to provide a consistent approach and proactive, effective resolution of issues.

  • Provide work packs for the supervision and trade teams to utilise for the erection and overseer the activities ensuring safety and quality are at the forefront of all aspect of the daily duties.

  • Ensure assigned Superintendent / Supervisor daily allocations are completed correctly and delays are captured.

  • Provide permits to work for the working party.

  • Ensure that construction quality is maintained at an acceptable level, including compliance of all required records and tests; thus ensuring that turnover of each portion and the whole of the Works are successfully achieved

  • The candidate should either be degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or have suitable Engineering experience.

  • Monitors performance and productivity of projects assigned engineering resources and provides feedback to supervisor and PM team.

We're looking for someone who has:


  • At least five years of experience ideally educated to HNC level or equivalent in a relevant engineering or construction discipline. A recognised trade background and/or a degree-level qualification would be advantageous.

  • Demonstrable experience and a thorough understanding of the Engineering and Construction industry, particularly within the Oil & Gas, Nuclear.

  • Strong IT skills, including the effective use of Microsoft 365 tools to support planning and project controls activities.

  • Will require a CSCS HS&E MAPS Card or CCNSG Safety Passport.


Project Specifics

The position will be based onsite. This role will report into the Package Area Leads, overseen by the Project Construction Manager.


Working Hours: 11 hours per day on a 10 day on 4 day off rotation (Working hours may change to suit the needs of the project)


Duration: ASAP for through until approx. 2029


Must be eligible to work in the U.K and subject to acceptance/ approval of the BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) Application and DBS Security Clearance (Disclosure & Barring Service Check).
