Job summary

SSEN Transmission is looking for an Electrical/Mechanical Fitter to help maintain its high voltage transmission network across Inverness, Caithness and Moray. The role suits someone with experience on electrical networks who enjoys practical engineering work and wants to develop their skills on equipment up to 400 kV.

You will carry out maintenance on switchgear and plant, inspect transformers and busbars, complete planned inspections and assist with network construction.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience on an electrical network.
• Strong commitment to health and safety.
• Ability to follow technical guidance and safe working procedures.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Flexible approach to changing operational requirements.
• Willingness to undertake training and develop high voltage authorisations.
• Full driving licence.
• Ability to work away from the base location occasionally.
• Experience maintaining LV and HV electrical plant would be advantageous.
• Previous HV experience within electricity transmission or similar organisation would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance on switchgear and plant up to 400kV.
• Inspect and maintain transformers, busbars and associated electrical equipment.
• Complete planned maintenance and routine inspections.
• Identify equipment defects and carry out repairs.
• Assist with electricity network construction works.
• Help maintain the safety and reliability of transmission infrastructure.
• Follow operational safety procedures and technical standards.
• Work across different sites throughout Inverness, Caithness and Moray.
• Support fault response and standby duties once authorisations obtained.
• Work with colleagues to complete maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
