NFU Mutual in the Midlands is seeking a Field based Commercial Underwriter to join our network of five offices and help drive growth with expert underwriting, with autonomy over complex cases and close collaboration with local agencies.

You will travel across the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Oxfordshire, building trusted relationships, reviewing property and casualty risks, and negotiating terms within your authority to deliver high-quality outcomes for customers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in commercial underwriting including complex/high value risks (up to £100k premiums).
• Strong technical knowledge across Property and Casualty products and underwriting principles.
• Experience influencing decisions and guiding stakeholders.
• Confidence analysing performance and supporting continuous improvement.
• Relevant insurance qualifications or progression towards them.
• Full current driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with NFU Mutual offices across the Midlands and with Agency Network partners.
• Take ownership of complex commercial underwriting cases with autonomy and technical depth.
• Review property and casualty risks, negotiate policy terms within authority, support large account reviews.
• Strengthen technical capability across the Agency Network and contribute to portfolio growth.
• Travel across West Midlands, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Oxfordshire, with regular homeworking as needed.

You’ll help retain valued customers, strengthen portfolio performance and identify sustainable opportunities for growth - making a direct contribution to the long-term success of our commercial business. By building trusted relationships with up to five established Agency partners across the Midlands and developing a genuine understanding of their customers’ businesses, you’ll deliver high-quality underwriting solutions and positive, long-term outcomes. Working as part of a national team of experienced underwriting professionals, you’ll review complex property and casualty risks, negotiate policy terms within your authority, support large account reviews and help strengthen technical capability across the Agency Network. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the continued evolution of a commercial portfolio that is critical to NFU Mutual’s future, supported by a structured induction, specialist underwriting training and ongoing peer support. *This role is known internally as: Onsite Underwriter*## About youYou are an **experienced commercial underwriter** with a strong track record of handling complex and technical insurance cases. You bring confidence in your decision making, enjoy building professional relationships and are comfortable working independently across a wide geographical area.
