Job description

Would you like to be part of a small and highly specialised service committed to supporting individuals in the community?

Would you like to involve and support me to be part of my local community?

Would you like to be well trained, well supported, well paid, and know that you are making a positive difference every time you go to work?

About Me

I am looking for people to support me in my new home in Nuneaton and in my local community. I am a woman in my 30s with a diagnosis of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), a form of autism, and a mild/moderate learning disability. I can present with some complex behaviours of concern.

It is important to me that my support team understands autism and PDA, and is patient and understanding. I need consistent support and encouragement, but it is also important to allow me to progress at my own pace and for staff to recognize when I need space.

Language is crucial; staff should avoid words like “no” and “don’t”. My initial reactions to questions are likely to be “no”, so staff need to be creative in how they present choices.

I enjoy many activities in the community but currently only access them with my Mum’s support. I would like to develop a good relationship with my support team so I can feel safe in the community without my Mum.

Role Responsibilities

About the role

  • Support me with patience and understanding.
  • Use effective language, especially considering my PDA.
  • Support with personal care.
  • Assist me in my own home and in the community.
  • Work alongside specialists in my multidisciplinary team.

This is a specialist supported living service in Nuneaton, North Warwickshire, with high expectations for staff. You will receive all necessary training beforehand, provided locally in Warwickshire.

The Ideal Candidate

You should be

  • Experienced in supporting people with autism and PDA.
  • Resilient, patient, and understanding; developing a strong bond may take time.
  • Consistent in your support approach.
  • Effective in using language to help expand my opportunities.

You should have

  • The right attitude!
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and with other professionals involved in my support.
