Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking a Family Time Supervisor to join our South East team. You will support children in care by supervising and facilitating contact sessions, recording detailed information, and preparing clear reports that may be used in court proceedings.

You will build collaborative relationships with parents, social workers, and foster carers, maintain safeguarding awareness, and travel as required to meet the role's needs. Flexibility and professionalism are essential.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with children and families in need.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel as required.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Manage challenging situations, stopping contact when in the child’s best interest.
  • Prepare for and document contacts accurately within agreed timescales and policy requirements.
  • Build effective relationships with parents, social workers, foster carers, and children while safeguarding.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, attending meetings and training.

Joining our South East team as aFamily Time Supervisor, you will play a vital role in supporting children of all ages in the care of Hampshire County Council. You will help create a safe, nurturing environment that enables meaningful family time, sensitivelyobservingcontact sessions,maintainingdetailedrecordsand preparing clear, professional reports that may contribute to court proceedings. Whatyou’lldo:
  • Supervise andfacilitatecontact sessionsin various settings, ensuring child safety, providing transport, and intervening if contact becomes unsafe.
  • Manage challenging situations, including stopping contact when it is not in the child’s best interest, whilemaintaininga child-focused approach.
  • Prepare for and document contactsaccurately within agreed timescales, adhering to legal and policy requirements.
  • Build effective relationshipswith parents, social workers, foster carers, and children, whiledemonstratingsafeguarding awareness and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, attending meetings, training, andcomplying withall relevant guidelines, legislation, and Hampshire County Council policies.
What we’re looking for:
  • Experience & Knowledge: Proven experience working with children and families in need, with strong understanding of child development and safeguarding practices.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent IT, verbal communication, listening, and observation skills; ability to build effective relationships with children, carers, and professionals.
  • Professional Attributes: Capacity to handle challenging situations, remain professional and non-judgemental and work flexibly.
  • Decision-Making & Initiative: Ability to make independent judgments and use initiative.
  • Organisational Skills: Skilled in maintaining accurate records and presenting information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements of the role: a full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle are essential.

You willbe requiredto work flexibly including working two later evenings per week and 1 in 4 Saturdays to support family needs.
