Job description

Tandridge Family Centre is recruiting a full-time Family Support Worker to join our Youth Skills program.

Surrey Family Centres are commissioned to support families with complex needs, supporting children aged 0-19 years, and up to 25 years for SEND. The Family Support team receives targeted referrals from Surrey County Council's cSPA.

The Family Support Worker will meet families regularly, providing tailored support focused on their specific needs. Our goal is to empower parents and carers with new skills and knowledge, build resilience, and offer emotional support. The role is based in the Family Centre and involves working closely with young people, families, and professionals, including meeting 11-19-year-olds and their families. The worker will provide signposting and support through bespoke programs tailored to the needs of the young person and their family. Our ambition is to empower all parties with knowledge, resilience, and support.

Key Responsibilities: Youth Skills Family Support Worker
  1. Work with children and young people, delivering evidence-based support and demonstrating the impact of interventions.
  2. Organize and facilitate Youth Panels to share Youth Voice and influence service delivery.
  3. Facilitate group work with peers at the centre and in venues around Surrey as needed.
  4. Support and deliver universal and targeted interventions for Youth Support, on a one-to-one or group basis, to achieve positive outcomes aligned with the 10 Supporting Family Outcomes.
  5. Collaborate with the wider team and local partners to ensure integrated service provision.
  6. Support the development of Centres as safe spaces for young people and families seeking support and information.
  • Manage a caseload of 12 to 15 families.
  • Complete assessments for families.
  • Facilitate group work both at the centre and in community venues around Surrey.
  • Work with families in their homes and community settings.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required
  • Ability to engage with disaffected or challenging families.
  • Knowledge of multi-agency working within Child Protection systems.
  • Experience contacting agencies and practitioners to support families and gather information, including initial visits for risk assessment and family strength/needs analysis.
  • Ability to work holistically, focusing on children’s outcomes and safeguarding, including visits at homes and schools.
  • Experience assessing family dynamics and routines to inform early help assessments within 45 days.
  • Experience working directly with families with complex needs, including issues like family breakdown, domestic violence, and attachment issues.
  • Effective communication skills with culturally diverse communities, demonstrating sensitivity.
  • Ability to challenge professionals appropriately to promote service users’ rights.
  • Approachable, non-judgemental, friendly, calm, creative, resilient, and well-organized.
  • Experience with detailed case recording and maintaining accurate case notes.
  • Own a car and be willing to travel across the borough to meet families.
  • Experience delivering training or presentations.
