Job description

As a Family Support Worker, you will be delivering family support assessments and interventions for children and young people with disabilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Working sensitively with children with moderate to severe learning disabilities and complex health needs to develop their social and communication skills, and promote friendships, independence, and self-esteem.
• Conducting assessments and supporting the planning of appropriate interventions and outcomes.
• Consulting meaningfully with children, young people, and their parents/carers to ensure services are appropriate, tailored to individual needs, reliable, and sensitive.
• Ensuring that the needs of children and young people are met through the delivery of planned interventions.
• Accessing, where possible, the full range of mainstream community resources and facilities to promote social inclusion and enable children to enjoy and achieve.

Requirements:

• Level 3 child care qualification or equivalent.
• Experience in delivering and evaluating leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people.
• Experience working with parents and carers of disabled children and young people.
• Experience of multi-agency working with statutory or voluntary agencies to provide a wide range of leisure opportunities.
• An understanding of the vulnerabilities of disabled children and the importance of ensuring their safety and promoting their independence responsibly.
• Knowledge of child safeguarding policies and procedures, especially concerning vulnerable groups.
• Commitment to improving the quality of life for disabled children, young people, and their families.
