Somerset Council is currently seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their team based in Shepton Mallet. The rate is £38.57ph Ltd. This is an initial 3-month contract with the potential to extend. While the main office is located in Shepton Mallet, the assessment team in Mendip also works with families whose home addresses are in Wells, Glastonbury, Castle Cary, Wincanton, and Frome.
You will be based within a family safeguarding team, managing a complex caseload of Child in Need, Child Protection, and Child Looked After cases. Competency in managing Court Work and experience in undertaking parenting assessments within pre-proceedings are required. Experience with completing "Parent-Assess" assessments is beneficial but not mandatory. You should have well-developed skills to work with children and families, conducting assessments that reflect individual circumstances, including needs and risk, as well as strengths and protective factors. Your goal will be to develop meaningful plans to ensure children are protected from harm and receive appropriate multi-agency support.
You will be responsible for a caseload of varying complexity, responding to referrals from various sources, assessing the needs of children and families under statutory frameworks, and liaising with partner agencies and other Children’s Services teams as needed. Participation in a duty rota responding to crisis situations and supporting children to remain safely within their families is also required. You will enable and empower individuals, families, and carers to address issues affecting their wellbeing, fostering positive change. Passion for relationship-based social work, professionalism, and creative thinking in building relationships to make a difference are essential qualities.
