Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking a Family Practitioner to support children and families in Totton. You’ll manage a varied caseload, deliver tailored interventions, and contribute to assessments and family plans within the Hampshire Approach.

You’ll work with Social Workers, coordinate services, prepare clear reports, attend visits, and use the Hampshire Approach to keep children safe. The role is permanent, 37 hours per week, with travel within Hampshire and a DBS check.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, young people and families.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Skilled in mediation and handling challenging situations.
• Ability to produce clear reports and use IT systems confidently.
• Flexible, adaptable and committed to inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with children, parents, and carers to provide practical and emotional support.
• Arrange resources and help families access services such as transport, care, and housing.
• Build positive relationships and collaborate with professionals.
• Use mediation and negotiation skills to improve family relationships.
• Undertake assessments and visits alongside Social Workers.
• Prepare clear reports and maintain accurate records.
