Job summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a hands-on Facilities Inspector to lead contract administration and oversee maintenance, repair, and construction of state facilities. You will read drawings, estimate costs, and ensure compliance with plans and safety standards.

Responsibilities include documenting work, coordinating with vendors and contractors, performing emergency repairs, obtaining permits, and conducting preventive maintenance to protect facilities assets.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, building and fire codes.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work on uneven ground.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Contract Administration and Oversight: Administer and oversee work by facilities contractors to ensure contractual requirements are met, e.g. plans, shop drawings, industry standards and codes.
• Documentation: Prepare paperwork, documentation, photos, project listings, scopes of work, estimates and process payments.
• Emergency Operations: Perform unscheduled or emergency repairs to facilities structures and equipment.
• Hands-on Facilities Work: Complete work orders related to construction, maintenance, repair and renovations, maintaining supplies and tools.
• Permits and Work Orders: Obtain permits and issue work orders to contractors or staff.
• Preventive Maintenance: Inspect conditions, document findings, and propose budget estimates.
