Job summary

Rooftop Housing Group is seeking a Facilities Operative in Worcester Royal Hospital to help keep our properties safe, clean and well maintained. You’ll be on-site, visible to customers, and work with the team to ensure a safe and welcoming place to live.

The role involves health and safety checks, maintenance tasks, liaising with contractors, and ensuring communal areas are tidy. Experience in a similar role and comfort with on-site inspections are desired.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of health and safety requirements.
• Experience in a similar facilities/operational role preferred.
• Ability to carry out minor maintenance tasks.
• Proficient use of mobile devices to record inspections; competent with MS Office.
• Precise completion of inspection forms with attention to detail.
• Friendly, customer-focused approach with on-site customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Carry out regular health and safety checks in communal areas.
• Test and record fire safety equipment and report faults promptly.
• Coordinate with external contractors for repairs and maintenance.
• Clean and maintain communal areas inside and outside blocks; clear blockages.
• Inspect areas for faults and raise or report repairs to the team.
• Look after external spaces and manage waste/refuse on site.
• Monitor car parking and arrange removal of large rubbish items and abandoned vehicles.
• Check lifts; ensure safety on site and report any failures.
• Inspect empty homes and raise repairs as needed.
• Participate in team meetings and on-site briefings.

Salary: £19,180 per annum (£28,387 pro rata), 25 hours per week Monday-Friday

Location:Worcester Royal Hospital, Worcester

We’re looking for a Facilities Operative to help keep our properties at Worcester Royal Hospital safe, clean and well maintained.

This is a hands‑on, varied role where you’ll be a visible presence on site, working with the wider team to make sure our customers have a safe and welcoming place to live.

What you'll do

• Carry out regular health and safety checks in communal areas.
• Test fire safety equipment such as emergency lighting, smoke detectors and fire alarms, keeping accurate records and reporting any faults promptly.
• Liaise with external contractors to make sure electrical and fire safety repairs and maintenance are completed.
• Clean and maintain communal areas inside and outside our blocks, including bin rooms and refuse chutes, and clear blockages where needed.
• Inspect communal areas for faults, carrying out minor repairs or reporting them to our Repairs team.
• Look after grassed areas and shrubberies, and keep external areas tidy.
• Monitor car parking facilities and arrange for large items of rubbish and abandoned vehicles to be removed.
• Check that lifts are working and, if there’s a failure, make sure people on site are safe and report it.
• Inspect empty homes and raise repairs.
• Work closely with colleagues on site, attending team meetings and briefings.

About you

You’ll bring:

• An understanding of health and safety requirements.
• Ideally, experience in a similar role.
• The ability to carry out minor maintenance tasks.
• Confidence using mobile devices to record inspections, and using Microsoft Office.
• Accuracy and attention to detail when completing inspection forms.
• A friendly, customer-focused approach, both with customers and colleagues.

Experience of carrying out compliance testing would be an advantage but isn’t essential.
