Job summary

Gower College Swansea is seeking a Facilities Operative to carry out general maintenance, security checks and emergency responses across its campuses, including evenings and weekends. This part-time, fixed-term role (20 hours per week) is based at Sketty Hall with a shift pattern 6:00am–10:00pm and an on-call rota with additional remuneration.

The college offers a supportive environment with a local government pension scheme and free parking.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant craft is preferred.
  • Willingness to complete First Aid and IOSH qualifications.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out general maintenance and temporary repairs to property, fixtures and fittings.
  • Support security including opening, closing and site checks.
  • Respond to facilities-related issues across campuses to maintain a safe environment.
  • Cover across sites, including satellite sites, as required by service needs.

Job description

The Facilities Operative will carry out general maintenance and temporary repairs to property, fixtures and fittings and to ensure the security of the premises, together with its contents. You will be expected to work flexibly across all of the College campuses and with working shift patterns. The Facilities Operative will be required to attend in cases of emergency call-outs e.g. flood, fire, intruders and take such action as required (e.g. marshalling etc).,

  • Carry out general maintenance and temporary repairs to property, fixtures and fittings.
  • Support the security of College premises, including opening, closing and site checks as required.
  • Respond to facilities-related issues across College sites, ensuring a safe and well-maintained environment for learners, staff and visitors.
  • Work flexibly with the Facilities team to provide cover across sites, including satellite sites, in line with service needs.
    With previous experience in a similar role you will ideally possess an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant craft and hold or be willing to work towards First Aid and IOSH qualifications.
  • You will have up to date knowledge of COSHH and Health & Safety procedures, including manual handling, be able to negotiate heights and confined spaces.
  • The ability to travel to the various College sites is essential.

  • Part time (20 hours per week)
  • Fixed Term for 4 months / until the end of December
  • £14,311 - 15,579 per annum
  • Primary location: Sketty Hall
  • The shift pattern includes evenings, weekends and shifts between the hours of 6:00am and 10:00pm
  • You will also be required to participate in the on-call rota, please note you will receive additional remuneration to be on stand-by and for call-outs., 28 days pro rata annual leave, plus bank holidays, and the college is closed for two weeks over the Christmas period
