Job description

Facilities Manager (on-site)

Starting salary is £43,269 per annum

Join Us at an Exciting Time of Investment and Development

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Estates & Facilities Management team at Suffolk New College as a Facilities Manager based at our Suffolk Rural campus in Otley.

Working alongside two existing Facilities Managers who support other college sites, you will play a key role in supporting the effective operation of our diverse and expanding estate, ensuring a safe, compliant and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Suffolk Rural is benefiting from a period of significant investment and estate transformation, making this an ideal opportunity for an experienced facilities professional seeking to broaden their impact beyond day‑to‑day operational management. Alongside responsibility for the delivery of high‑quality facilities services, you will contribute to an ambitious programme of estate improvements and capital projects planned over the coming years. The site also has a number of older buildings, which require regular maintenance to be carried out by the team, alongside the co‑ordination of FM activities.

The current investment includes a transformational £2.5 million redevelopment project, which will convert an existing building into innovative new teaching and learning facilities scheduled to commence in early 2027 with a completion by September 2027. With further capital investment planned across the campus, this role offers the opportunity to be involved in projects, alongside managing the operational activities of the team, with the aim of enhancing the experience of everyone who learns, works and visits here.

We are looking for a proactive, organised and solutions‑focused individual who enjoys variety, thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in delivering excellent facilities management services. In return, you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact within a forward‑looking organisation that is committed to investing in its estate, its people and its future.

A small three‑bedroom house is available on the Rural campus as an option for the successful candidate. Previous postholders have lived on site, with a rental arrangement that is subsided and the detail of which can be provided as part of the recruitment process with shortlisted candidates. Through living on site this supports the College with emergency and critical cover from the team alongside the Farm Manager who occupies the other College property. This unique benefit provides convenient access to the campus and may be particularly attractive to candidates seeking a rural living and working environment, but it is not an essential requirement and other options are available to the College if this is not taken up by the manager.

You will be required to travel between College campuses, particularly the Ipswich site, and on occasion Halesworth and Leiston, and therefore must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle. The College Travel Policy provides reimbursement for business mileage incurred when travelling to sites other than your normal place of work.

At Suffolk New College, we promote the culture of BeSNC. Implementing BeSNC is not just a choice; it's a commitment to providing the best possible environment for our learners to thrive. It's a commitment to nurturing an inclusive and supportive community where each student, staff and community member can reach their full potential.
