Job summary

West Northants Council is seeking a Maintenance Officer to deliver a programme of maintenance, repairs and building support across the council's corporate properties in Northampton. The role focuses on reactive, compliance and planned maintenance, including general repairs, inspections and minor works, ensuring buildings remain safe, warm and fit for purpose.

Working pattern is 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 10:00–18:00 and Friday 10:00–17:30.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of general maintenance and repair techniques across a varied property portfolio.
• Knowledge of risk assessments and health and safety procedures; IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Carry out reactive, compliance and planned maintenance activities across corporate properties.
• Oversee contractors on site, conduct site inductions and issue permits for hot works.
• Conduct regular internal and external inspections, prioritise repairs and coordinate actions to minimise disruption.
• Ensure all activities comply with health and safety legislation and council procedures.
