Job summary

Bassetlaw District Council in Worksop is seeking a practical Facilities Maintenance Officer to join the Property Services team. You will carry out reactive repairs and planned maintenance across Council properties, including painting, plumbing, bricklaying and joinery, ensuring safety and high standards in service delivery.

This full-time position offers 37 hours per week, a salary in the £28,598–£31,022 range, and a supportive team focused on delivering reliable, customer‑facing facility

Qualifications

  • Qualified in plumbing, joinery or related field.
  • Experience with repairs and practical building skills across soft and hard facilities management services.
  • Knowledge of health and safety relevant to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive maintenance works across Council properties (painting, plumbing, bricklaying, joinery).
  • Complete repairs, modifications and replacements as directed.
  • Support planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Conduct inspections of rooms, communal areas and properties.
  • Identify and address maintenance issues and health and safety risks.
  • Maintain accurate records (logs, inspections, site visits, compliance).
  • Plan and manage daily workload to meet service demands and deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly with the Property Services team, customers and contractors.

Facilities Maintenance Officer

Finance and property Department

Salary Grade 4 £28,598 - £31,022 per annum

Full Time/37 hours per week

We are looking for a practical, reliable and customer-focused Facilities Maintenance Officer to join our Property Services team. This role will support the maintenance of Council general fund properties by carrying out a wide range of programmed and reactive repairs across the district.

The successful candidate will have strong practical building maintenance skills and be confident carrying out repairs such as painting, plumbing, bricklaying and joinery. You will help ensure that works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while providing a professional and approachable service to internal and external customers.

What you’ll be doing
  • Carrying out a range of reactive maintenance works across Council general fund properties, including painting, plumbing, bricklaying and joinery.
  • Completing repairs, modifications and replacements as directed.
  • Supporting planned preventative maintenance activities and responding promptly to maintenance requests.
  • Conducting inspections of rooms, communal areas and properties across the district.
  • Identifying and addressing maintenance issues and health and safety risks.
  • Maintaining accurate records, including maintenance logs, inspections, site visits and compliance information.
  • Planning and managing your daily workload effectively to meet service demands and deadlines.
  • Communicating clearly with the Property Services team, customers and contractors.
About you

You will have a recognised qualification in plumbing, joinery or a related field, along with experience of repairs and practical building skills across soft and hard facilities management services. You will also have knowledge of health and safety relevant to the role and experience of working safely in a reactive maintenance support environment.

We are looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a team, build positive working relationships with customers and contractors, communicate effectively and stay organised when working under pressure. You must also be physically able to carry out lifting and loading duties associated with the post and be flexible in responding to the needs of the service.
