Job description

Facilities, Logistics & Site Operations Manager
About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced, practical Facilities, Logistics & Site Operations Manager to own the facilities and technical logistics function across our Bristol operations. This is a broad, hands‑on ownership role in a fast-moving technical organisation. You will be accountable for the systems, suppliers, budgets, services, logistics and day‑to‑day operational control that keep our office, laboratory and pilot‑scale processing environment running effectively.

Because this is currently a single‑person function, the role combines managerial responsibility with hands‑on execution. You will own budgets, supplier performance, facilities planning, contractor coordination and technical logistics, but you will also need to handle the practical administration, tracking, purchasing, scheduling and problem‑solving yourself. It will suit someone experienced who is comfortable switching between budget control, supplier discussions, operational planning and the detail of making sure equipment, materials, documentation and services are where they need to be.

You will play a central role in the upcoming facility relocation, owning the facilities and logistics workstream for the move and helping establish scalable operating systems for the new site. You do not need to be an engineer, but you should be confident working around process equipment, laboratory or pilot plant operations, specialist contractors and regulated materials, and able to ask the right technical questions to keep work moving.

Key Responsibilities

1. Facilities, Site Operations & Contractor Management

  • Own day‑to‑day facilities and site operations across the office, laboratory and pilot facility, ensuring the site remains safe, functional and ready for technical work.
  • Manage contractors, service providers, utilities and specialist technical suppliers, including scopes of work, scheduling, follow‑up, performance and issue resolution.
  • Own the facilities and logistics workstream for the site relocation, including equipment moves, supplier scheduling, utility readiness, storage, consumables and continuity of operations.
  • Take a practical, hands‑on approach to small facility issues (e.g., minor repairs, adjustments, basic troubleshooting), ensuring contractors are brought in for specialist tasks.
  • Maintain practical records for site services, utilities, assets and contracted works, ensuring issues, actions, costs and responsibilities are visible and followed through.
  • Own relevant facilities and logistics budgets, tracking spend, supporting procurement discipline and challenging supplier costs where appropriate.

2. Health, Safety & Compliance Systems

  • Own the day‑to‑day administration and control of H&S and compliance systems established by external consultants, including COSHH, pressure systems, waste, documentation libraries and site records.
  • Coordinate site permitting, audits, inspections, policy developments and certifications such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Cyber Essentials and Joscar, drawing on external specialists where needed.
  • Track and report environmental and operational metrics including energy use and carbon footprint.

3. Technical Logistics, Materials & Supplier Management

  • Own purchasing, quotes, POs, consumables, technical suppliers, equipment hire, logistics providers and supplier follow‑up across the office, laboratory and pilot facility.
  • Control goods in/goods out, deliveries, collections, sample movements, waste movements, storage locations, packaging, labelling and practical inventory processes.
  • Establish and maintain clear asset, equipment, consumables and materials records so technical teams have visibility of what is available, what is in transit and what requires action.
  • Plan and coordinate operational logistics for trials, customer demonstrations, partner visits, off‑site work and movement of technical materials between sites or suppliers.
  • Provide hands‑on operational administration where needed, including trackers, schedules, records, internal coordination, event logistics and support for key organisational initiatives.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Personal Qualities
  • Significant experience in facilities, site operations, technical logistics, industrial operations, laboratory operations, manufacturing, pilot plant or similar environments.
  • Familiarity with health & safety and compliance systems (e.g., COSHH, environmental permitting, waste management).
  • Able to operate independently as the sole owner of a function, balancing ownership, judgement and hands‑on execution.
  • Comfortable managing budgets, suppliers, trackers, logistics schedules, asset registers, service records and operational reports.
  • Able to work effectively around technical equipment and materials, with the confidence to clarify requirements with engineers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Passion for sustainability and circular technology innovation.
  • A self‑starter who can hit the ground running in a fast paced, evolving environment and is equally comfortable with managerial ownership and practical problem solving.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience as the lead or sole facilities, site operations or technical logistics owner in a small, growing or technically complex organisation.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH or other H&S training.
  • Project management qualifications or experience.
