Job summary

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Facilities Services Assistant to support cleaning, waste handling and linen distribution across hospital sites.

The role involves practical cleaning tasks, mail delivery, exterior area duties and operating laundry equipment, with part-time hours around 13.5 per week. Training and development opportunities are provided as part of NHS programmes.

  • Empty, clean and relink waste bins with appropriate liners and dispose per regulations.
  • Clean internal glass and mirrors; vacuum carpeted areas and mop hard floors.

Job description

Responsibilities

Maintain high standards of hand hygiene, infection prevention, and control, thereby reducing the risk of cross-infection between patients. Emptying, cleaning and relining waste bins with appropriate coloured liner. Securing and placing them for disposal to ensure regulations for clinical and non-clinical waste (including compacting) are adhered to. Cleaning of internal glass and mirrors as detailed on the daily work schedule. Vacuum clean all carpeted floor surfaces and to static and damp mop all hard floor surfaces to ensure all areas are free from dust, dirt and grit. Clean and dry sanitary areas including WCs, wash hand basins, baths, showers, sinks and sluices (if present in work area). Other duties associated with this role may include:

  • Collect and deliver mail
  • Complete duties associated with the cleanliness of the exterior area e.g. bins and car park roads
  • Deliver/replenish gas cylinders as required
  • Distribute linen to wards and associated areas and other laundry duties as required, including the operation of washing machines and dryers and the treatment/disposal of dirty laundry
Additional Responsibilities

JM1149 Facilities Services Assistant, matched 22/07/2026, consistency checked 30/07/2026 2 Assist with the unloading of supplies and distribution to departments. Refer complaints to the Supervisor/nurse in charge.

Working Pattern

Monday-Thursday 16:30-19:15, Friday 16:30-19:00. These hours may vary depending on service needs. 13.5 hours per week.
