Job summary

Don Bur (Bodies & Trailers) Ltd invites applicants to join an apprentice program to build trailer bodies and gain hands-on manufacturing experience in welding, fabrication, and machining.

You will learn MIG welding, operate CNC lasers and robotic welders, read fabrication drawings, and develop skills toward a nationally recognised engineering qualification with on-the-job and off-the-job training.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 3 or above.
  • Basic reading of fabrication drawings and process instructions.
  • Interest in engineering and welding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • MIG weld steel up to 12mm as part of training.
  • Weld other materials such as stainless steel and alloys during the apprenticeship.
  • Operate CNC lasers and robotic welding equipment under supervision.
  • Use hand and air tools competently and safely.
  • Read detailed fabrication drawings and work to deadlines.
  • Complete off-the-job training and portfolio work as part of the programme.

Don Bur (Bodies & Trailers) Ltd have a fantastic opportunity for a Trailer Body Build Apprentice to join their company to assist in the assembly and fitting of bodies to trailers and rigid bodies.

What You'll Do
  • Learning how to MIG weld steel up to 12mm thickness
  • Learning how to weld other materials such as stainless steel, alloys, etc.
  • Learn how to operate CNC lasers
  • Learn how to operate robotic welding machines
  • Become fully competent in the use of hand and air tools
  • Understand how to read and work from detailed fabrication drawings
  • Become capable of working to demanding deadlines
  • Complete off-the-job training and portfolio work as part of the apprenticeship programme
Training Outcome

Once the probation period is over you will be placed on an NVQ training course to become a fully qualified Fitter. We are invested in continuous career development throughout your employment and a keen interest in engineering is crucial for this role. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the candidate will achieve a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship qualification.

Qualifications on completion of the apprenticeship.

As well as gaining a broad range of professional knowledge and experience, you will gain academic and vocational qualifications such as the Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship Standard. You will also achieve Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations (Skills), as well as a Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations (Knowledge).
