Job description

Job Purpose

Shift working. Must be able to work early and late shift. No night shift. On-site location – Whetstone, Leicester. Responsible for operating CNC machinery including 3‑axis CNC milling, high‑speed spindle polishers, single‑point diamond turning machines, and twin lap polishing machines to manufacture a wide range of precision optics. Work independently following SOPs, work instructions, and support team objectives. Participate in continuous process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate with team leader or manager, giving feedback on progress, concerns, and suggestions; provide accurate manufacturing completion dates to enable smooth flow of product.
• Use in‑process inspection equipment, interpret data, and make process changes to maintain quality; achieve low levels of scrap and rework; understand relevant quality specifications; examine work before handing over.
• Maintain safety regulations, report risks and incidents, and ensure a safe workplace.
• Consistently meet and improve standard manufacturing times; manufacture high‑specification optics using fabrication‑process knowledge.
