Job summary

The London Clinic is seeking a Fabric Technician with proven painting, decorating and tiling skills to join our facilities team at the London site. You will perform tiling, painting and general maintenance across the clinic, ensuring a high quality finish and adherence to safety policies.

This permanent, full‑time role offers 12‑hour shifts (7am–7pm) on a 4 days on/4 days off basis, with a salary of £34,000 rising to £35,000 after probation and a range of staff benefits.

Qualifications

  • Post-qualification experience in painting, decorating and tiling.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Painting & Decorating and NVQ Level 2 in Wall & Floor Tiling.
  • Health & Safety Awareness training.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance (PPM) works.
  • Undertake painting and decorating, including surface prep, color matching, painting and touch-ups.
  • Measure, cut and install tiles to required specs with high-quality finish.
  • General building repairs and maintenance as requested by management or Helpdesk.
  • Carry out PPM inspections and respond to painting, tiling and maintenance requests.
  • Follow drawings, specs, regulations and safe working practices.
  • Use tools and equipment safely for the work.
  • Support emergency/out-of-hours works as required.
  • Participate as First Responder and Emergency/Fire Team member.

Job description

Job title: Fabric Technician - Painter/Tiler
Location: London, W1G
Salary: £34,000 (rising to £35,000 post probation)
Term: Permanent
Hours: Full-time (12 hour shifts: 7 am - 7 pm working 4 days on, 4 days off)
A little about the role

As Fabric Technician, you will be responsible for fabric related tiling, painting and decorating jobs, general maintenance, repairs, minor improvements across the Clinic. This is not an exhaustive list but provides examples of the type and range of systems and equipment worked on.

What you'll be doing
  • Carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) works in accordance with Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Undertake painting and decorating, including surface preparation, colour matching, paint mixing, application and touch-ups.
  • Measure, cut and install tiles to required specifications on floors, walls and other surfaces, ensuring a high-quality finish.
  • Undertake general building repairs and maintenance as requested by management or through the Helpdesk.
  • Carry out PPM inspections and respond to painting, tiling and maintenance requests from stakeholders.
  • Follow relevant drawings, specifications, regulations, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Use tools and equipment safely and appropriately for the work undertaken.
  • Support emergency and out-of-hours works, including painting and tiling, as required.
  • Participate as a First Responder and member of the Emergency/Fire Team.
General Duties
  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all Clinic health, safety, fire, confidentiality and data protection policies.
  • Complete all mandatory training and relevant professional development.
  • Attend team and other meetings as required.
  • Use Clinic IT systems, email and intranet as required to support the role.
  • Support service continuity by working additional hours/rest days where reasonably required.
  • Attend external training, courses or site visits, including occasional overnight stays, as required.
  • Undertake other duties within the scope of the role as directed by the line manager and in response to the needs of the department.
What we're looking for
  • Post-qualification experience in painting, decorating and tiling.
  • Relevant qualification or structured training in Painting & Decorating and/or Wall & Floor Tiling.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Practical experience of surface preparation, painting, decorating and tile installation.
  • Ability to work safely at height and handle heavy equipment and materials.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and a flexible, adaptable approach.
  • Good attention to detail and basic numeracy skills for measuring surfaces and calculating material requirements.
  • Ability to inspect and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Experience working in an acute hospital or similarly complex environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Painting & Decorating.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Wall & Floor Tiling.
  • Health & Safety Awareness training.
