Job summary

Equans is seeking a Maintenance Assistant at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This permanent, full-time role involves 37.5 hours per week with a shift pattern including days, evenings and weekends.

The salary is £27,000–£28,500 per annum plus a fixed monthly unsocial allowance of £233 and a comprehensive benefits package. You will support Estates Management to deliver a 24/7 maintenance service, liaise with internal departments, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs to hospital equipment

Qualifications

• NVQ in maintenance or equivalent experience is required.
• Experience with building maintenance and systems preferred.
• Basic IT literacy and PDA familiarity expected.
• Desirable hospital environment experience and HTM knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Support Estates Management in providing a 24hr maintenance service at the Portsmouth Hospital Trust.
• Promote customer service to internal and external customers and liaise with other departments on maintenance issues.
• Undertake additional duties as required.
• Diagnose faults and repair complex equipment following HTM guidelines after training.
• Carry out work across related trades where needed and carry a radio/pager for immediate response.
• Work in challenging conditions including drains/sewers and exposure to biohazards.
• Replace lamps and clean all types of light fittings; perform cleaning, labouring and driving tasks.
• Observe Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH and Electrical IEE regulations at all times.

Job description

Equans is looking for a Maintenance Assistant to be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week, based on a shift pattern that includes days, evenings and weekends. On offer is a salary banding of £27,000 - £28,500 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience, a fixed monthly unsocial allowance (£233pm) and benefits package.

What will you deliver?

• Support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the Portsmouth Hospital Trust for the service provider
• Promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required
• Undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post
• After suitable training and guidance diagnose faults, repair and maintain complex equipment in accordance with Health Technical Memorandum (HTM’s) and other specialised hospital equipment
• Carry out the work of other trades where there is an interface to the work in hand with a level of competence that’s outside core trade
• Carry a radio or pager to facilitate immediate response
• Work in highly unpleasant working conditions, unblocking drains and sewers, which include biological hazards of body fluids and noxious fumes
• Carry out replacement of lamps and cleaning of all types of light fittings
• Carry out cleaning, labouring and driving tasks associated with Estates maintenance as instructed
• Observe statutory and other relevant requirements at all times in particular those relating to the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and Electrical IEE regulations
