Job summary

RG Setsquare is recruiting an experienced Fabric Engineer to join a busy healthcare environment in Birmingham. You will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of the building fabric, ensuring the site remains safe, compliant and well maintained.

The role covers fire doors, drainage, cladding and roofing, with 40 hours per week and a £35,000 per annum salary. DBS check is required and training may be provided for Competent Person status.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across the building fabric.

  • Maintain fire doors and passive fire protection; inspect drainage, cladding and roofing.
  • Complete maintenance to ensure compliance and safe working practices.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and assist in training for Competent Person status.

Fabric Engineer

Location: Birmingham

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Fabric Engineer to join a busy healthcare environment in Birmingham.


You will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of the building fabric, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, compliant and well maintained. The role covers a broad range of fabric systems and will suit an experienced maintenance professional with strong practical and diagnostic skills.


You will work as part of a wider facilities and engineering team, responding to reactive issues while also completing planned preventative maintenance across the site.


Key Responsibilities


  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the building fabric.

  • Respond to reactive maintenance requests, carrying out effective fault finding, diagnosis and repairs.

  • Maintain and repair fire doors and passive fire protection systems.

  • Undertake maintenance and repairs to drainage systems.

  • Inspect and maintain cladding and roof systems.

  • Carry out general joinery repairs and other fabric maintenance activities.

  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and safe working procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance activities.

  • Develop Competent Person status through relevant training and instruction, including areas such as confined spaces and working at height.

  • Identify potential defects and maintenance issues and take appropriate action to prevent further deterioration.

  • Work closely with colleagues, contractors and other site teams to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Support a proactive approach to health, safety, compliance and continuous improvement.


About You

We are looking for a practical and experienced Fabric Engineer or Fabric Maintenance Technician with previous experience working within a maintenance environment.


You will ideally have:


  • A recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering or building-services discipline to City & Guilds level.

  • Previous experience working within a maintenance environment.

  • Good practical knowledge of building fabric systems.

  • Experience working with fire doors and passive fire protection.

  • Knowledge of drainage systems, cladding and roofing.

  • Strong general joinery and fabric repair skills.

  • Good diagnostic and fault-finding abilities.

  • An understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance requirements.

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider maintenance team.

  • Good communication and organisational skills.

  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving maintenance issues.

  • Previous healthcare or hospital experience would be advantageous, although candidates with relevant experience in other complex environments will also be considered.
