Job summary

Elaine Primary School is seeking an Extended Schools Assistant to deliver wraparound care after school hours, including play, learning, sport and light snacks. You will work under the headteacher to provide a safe, welcoming environment for children and families, with training in safeguarding and food hygiene as part of the role.

The post involves 10 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, with shifts from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, and requires a commitment to safeguarding and health and safety policies.

We are seeking to appoint a committed, resilient, passionate and ambitious Extended Schools Assistant to join our school and partnership to inspire a generation of children.

Main Purpose

Working under the guidance of the headteacher, in compliance with the relevant frameworks and in keeping with the school and trust values, the provision will deliver wraparound care that complements our core offering. This care will comprise a programme of stimulating activities; play, learning, sporting, and complimentary social opportunities. There will also be the provision of a light snack.

As part of your training, you will complete Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and food hygiene certifications. Although cooking is not required, you will be responsible for serving light snacks, such as packed lunches or sandwiches provided by parents.

Specific Responsibilities

1. 1. Responsible for assisting with the promotion of a high quality, child-centred learning and play service within a safe and secure environment out of school hours
2. 2. Assist with the provision of a friendly, caring, safe and secure environment which takes as its starting point the needs of the child
3. 3. Assist, prepare and provide play and learning opportunities appropriate to the developmental stages of extended hours users
4. 4. Assist with the planning of activities, in line with the structure of the extended hours routines, to promote play and learning within an organised approach
5. 5. Assist with placing orders for resources (including food & drink), in a timely manner and in line with budget expectations
6. 6. Maintain good working relationships with all staff and maintain positive communications with parents and carers
7. 7. Follow the agreed systems for the registration of children adhering safeguarding procedures
8. 8. Ensure that the management of pupil behaviour, in line with the school values and expectations,and to ensure that the behaviour system is applied consistently
9. 9. Ensure that the preparation and serving of children’s light refreshments and snacks are of a consistently high standard, and that hygiene factors are maintained, along with ensuring that all staff in the provision are regularly updated with appropriate Food Safety and Hygiene training courses and certification, you will attend a Food Hygiene course as part of the training.
10. 10. Support and value each child’s home culture and language in line with Elaine’s values
11. 11. Assist with all minor accidents, escalating where appropriate, and ensure that all staff within the extended provision are regularly updated with appropriate first aid training courses and certification
12. 12. Ensure first aid, and/or RIDDOR paperwork is adhered to, as appropriate and that any first aid stocks are regularly updated
13. 13. Ensure the health and safety of all children and colleagues in the extended provision by maintaining a clean and tidy environment and reporting any hazards promptly to the facilities team for rectification, through the agreed processes
14. 14. To maintain confidentiality at all times
15. 15. To undertake any other work appropriate to the level and general nature of the post’s duties
