About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an Experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, offering a salary of up to £70,000 depending on experience.

This is an opportunity to become the third Veterinary Surgeon in a young, ambitious and rapidly developing practice, with genuine scope to influence its clinical direction and help shape the services it provides to the wider Tendring area.

The role offers a four-day working week, no out-of-hours, and a 1 in 3 Saturday rota, alongside a structured certificate development pathway and visa sponsorship for eligible candidates.

Rather than simply filling a consulting rota, the successful Veterinary Surgeon will have the opportunity to develop a recognised clinical interest and build it into a meaningful service within the practice.

About the Practice

The practice is an independently led small animal veterinary practice in Clacton-on-Sea, which has grown rapidly since opening in 2025 and continues to attract clients from across Clacton and the wider Tendring district.

The practice has developed capabilities beyond routine first-opinion work and is continuing to invest in people, equipment and clinical services.

Current and developing clinical capabilities include:

• Advanced soft-tissue surgery

• BOAS surgery

• Orthopaedic procedures

• Emergency abdominal surgery

• Diagnostic ultrasound

• Dental radiography

• Surgical dentistry

• Endoscopy development

• Strong anaesthesia and analgesia protocols

• In-house diagnostics and laboratory support

The clinical environment is designed to provide Veterinary Surgeons with the opportunity to manage a broader and more interesting caseload locally, while maintaining the accessibility and continuity of a general practice.

The practice is still young enough for a new Veterinary Surgeon to have a visible influence on its culture, systems and clinical development.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality first-opinion small animal veterinary care.

• Manage routine consultations and procedures independently.

• Diagnose and treat a varied and increasingly complex caseload.

• Perform medical and surgical procedures appropriate to experience.

• Develop and pursue an individual clinical interest.

• Work towards building a recognised clinical service within the practice.

• Utilise modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.

• Work collaboratively with the practice owner, Clinical Director, Veterinary Surgeons and nursing team.

• Contribute to clinical discussions and the continued development of practice standards.

• Support high standards of anaesthesia, analgesia and patient care.

• Communicate clearly and transparently with clients about treatment options.

• Contribute to the growth and development of a sustainable veterinary service.

• Participate in the 1 in 3 Saturday rota.

Candidate Profile

They are looking for an experienced Small Animal GP Veterinary Surgeon with strong general-practice foundations and a genuine desire to develop further.

You do not need to be a specialist. They are particularly interested in someone who has:

• Solid experience in small animal general practice.

• Good clinical judgement and communication skills.

• The confidence to manage a varied caseload.

• A collaborative approach to Veterinary Surgeons, nurses and reception colleagues.

• The ability to remain calm and constructive in a busy clinical environment.

• A genuine desire to continue learning and increasing clinical capability.

Areas of interest could include medicine, diagnostic imaging, surgery, dentistry, endoscopy or another discipline that complements the needs of the practice and local client base.
