Job summary

Hartmore School, based in Gloucestershire, is seeking an experienced Secondary Class Teacher to lead a small, mixed-ability class of around 7-8 pupils in our SEMH provision. You will teach across the curriculum with support from teaching assistants and play a vital pastoral role to help pupils grow socially, emotionally and academically.

Applicants must have QTS with the 2-year ECT induction and at least 3 years post-qualification experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach across the curriculum to a small secondary class.
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Prepare students for examinations.
• Build positive, relational learning environments using trauma-informed approaches.
• Create and maintain a trauma-informed classroom environment.
• Track progress, assess learning and contribute to the review processes.
• Lead whole-school development in a specialist subject area.
• Review schemes of work, monitor standards, and support colleagues.
• Provide daily pastoral oversight for your student group.
• Support wellbeing, behaviour, transitions, and future pathways including post 16 opportunities.

The Role: Experienced Secondary Class Teacher (Not suitable for ECTs)

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, resilient and skilled secondary teacher to lead a small, mixed‑ability class of around 7-8 pupils in our co‑ed provision. You will teach across the curriculum, supported by experienced teaching assistants, and play a vital pastoral role in helping pupils grow socially, emotionally and academically.

You will be teaching within our upper age range and supporting learners who will generally be working below age‑related expectations and require a highly nurturing, adaptive approach.

You will play an active role in whole‑school development, providing leadership in areas such as subject planning and the ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network).

This role is ideal for a teacher who is:

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

• Teach across the curriculum to a small secondary class.
• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Prepare students for examinations.
• Build positive, relational learning environments using trauma‑informed approaches.
• Create and maintain a positive, structured and trauma‑informed classroom environment.
• Track progress, assess learning and contribute to the review processes.
• Lead whole‑school development in a specialist subject area.
• Review schemes of work, monitor standards, and support colleagues.

Pastoral Care

• Provide daily pastoral oversight for your student group.
• Support wellbeing, behaviour, transitions, and future pathways including post 16 opportunities.

Essential Experience & Qualities

• QTS and completion of the 2‑year ECT induction
• Minimum of 3 years’ post‑qualification experience
• Ability to teach across the curriculum
• Strong behaviour management and safeguarding knowledge
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• A commitment to collaboration and professional growth
• Full manual driving license
• Experience in an SEMH/SEND setting and trauma‑informed practice
• Curriculum leadership, ASDAN or Duke of Edinburgh Award delivery.
